Scalar mesons: in search of the lightest glueball

چکیده

According to the QCD expectations the lightest glueball should be a scalar particle (J = 0). Different scenarios have been considered for a classification of these states but – despite considerable progress in recent years – the experimental basis for various parameters is still rather weak. We present a new analysis of the elastic and charge exchange ππ scattering between 1000 and 1800 MeV. A unique solution is selected which shows clear evidence for f0(1500) and a broad state (σ or “f0(1000)”), but there is no evidence for f0(1370) at a level of & 10% branching ratio to ππ. Arguments in favour of the broad state to be a glueball are summarized.

Glueball Decay in Holographic QCD

Using holographic QCD based on D4-branes and D8-anti-D8-branes, we have computed couplings of glueballs to light mesons. We describe glueball decay by explicitly calculating its decay widths and branching ratios. Interestingly, while glueballs remain less well understood both theoretically and experimentally, our results are found to be consistent with the experimental data for the scalar glueb...

Light scalar meson spectrum

We discuss the classification of the light scalar mesons with mass below 2 GeV into qq̄ nonets and glueballs. The information on production and decay of these states, in particular recent information on the f0(980), f0(400−1200) (or σ(600)) and f0(1500) is considered. Although the data are not yet very precise the recent information is in favour of the previously developed scheme which includes ...

Scalar Glueball Decay *

We evaluate the coupling constant for the lightest scalar glueball to decay to pseudoscalar meson pairs. The calculation is done in the valence approximation on a 16 3 × 24 lattice at β = 5.70 for two different values of pseudoscalar meson mass. A valence approximation calculation [1] using between 25000 and 30000 gauge configurations at each of several different β gives a value of 1740 ± 71 Me...

The hadronic dressing of the ten lightest scalar mesons is discussed. Let us imagine that we live in a world without quarks. QCD suggests there will still be a spectrum of hadrons, bound states of two or more gluons, the lightest of these being stable. Though this world is far from that explored by experiment, it is the world of the lattice calculator. There the lightest state is a scalar in th...

Glueball Spectroscopy in Regge Phenomenology *

We show that linear Regge trajectories for mesons and glueballs, and the cubic mass spectrum associated with them, determine a relation between the masses of the ρ meson and the scalar glueball, M (0 ++) = 3/ √ 2 M (ρ), which implies M (0 ++) = 1620 ± 10 MeV. We also discuss relations between the masses of the scalar and The existence of a gluon self-coupling in QCD suggests that, in addition t...
